Newham: Driving up the Competition

Productions continue to pour into the borough from far and wide to film their projects from exciting ads to thrilling TV Dramas. We’ve picked out a selection below, take a look!

Start Your Engines! 

Royal Albert Way has played host to several productions in the last fews months for driving scenes, with its city views and relatively quiet traffic flow this road is perfect for driving scenes and is becoming a very popular filming location.  Comedy Crime Drama Code 404 starring Stephen Graham and Daniel Mays will be returning for a third series, now boasting the title of Sky’s most watched comedy in 8 years. In this series the hilarious police detective duo Roy and John take on a new case. The production filmed driving scenes around various streets in the borough including he North Woolwich Road, Lower Lea Crossing, Connaught Bridge and Royal Albert Way.

The Royal Enfield Motorbikes also took to Royal Albert Way and other Newham Streets including a fabulous sunset shot of a motorbike cruising along RAW. This was for their latest ad showcasing Royal Enfield’s new bike; ‘The Hunter 350.’

Mous 

Phone case brand Mous took to Victory Park in East Village, Stratford to film their first ever TV Commercial to showcase their range of protective phone cases.

The production filmed scenes involving 50 cast members walking through the park suddenly stopping to throw their phones up in the air and let them land on the floor. The idea behind the ad being to show just how protective their cases are and *spoiler alert* not a single phone was cracked or broken!

A production of this scale take careful planning with all relevant department and contacts to allow for a filming day with minimal impact to both local residents and businesses. Save Our Squad

Disney+’s upcoming documentary ‘Save Our Squad’ with David Beckham is set to delight football fans around the world when it drops on the streaming site on November 9th. It follows Beckham as he returns to his old stomping ground of the East end as he gives back to the grassroots football that moulded him into the star we’ve all come to know.

This production filmed throughout the borough with shoots taking place at Newham Leisure Centre and New Beckton Park. Beth Elliott, the Film Officer on the jobs said “It was an absolute delight to have this production and Mr Golden Balls himself in the borough, it was a great way to exhibit the kind of versatile and attractive locations we have across Newham!”
