This past November Newham played host to the Hong Kong TV Drama Flying Tiger 2. Set across multiple continents the first series accumulated 4 billions hit rates on the Internet. “Flying Tiger” was co-produced by Shaw Brothers Pictures International Limited and Youku, a Chinese online media platform. The story focuses on Marcus who serves in the Special Duties Unit (SDU) of the Hong Kong Police Force.
When the production sought to find the perfect Cemetery location as Marcus visits his brothers grave, Newham Film Office, Managed by The Film Office, were more than happy to offer up West Ham Cemetery.
West Ham Cemetery opened in 1857 and boasts an impressive 22 acres of land, which is open 365 days a year. The cemetery is complete with its own fantastic chapel and war memorial, providing a vast range of possibilities for productions.
Jacob Hughes-Rodgers from Newham Film Office said “Given the sensitivities of the location, ensuring minimal disruption to its daily running was paramount to achieving a successful shoot and it was great to see first-hand on the day all the hard work come to fruition. With filming in the borough on the increase we offer the full range of locations for visiting productions that enables the borough of Newham to be showcased on the world stage. It has been a fantastic year for filming in Newham and this was just the icing on the cake. Bring on 2019!”
