New year, new content! From pulse-pumping action to laugh-out-loud comedy, Newham has already hosted a variety of exciting productions in 2025. Take a look below!
Mobland
Guy Ritchie makes a triumphant return to the small screen following the success of The Gentlemen in 2024. This time he brings us action-packed tense crime drama, Mobland, starring Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Tom Hardy. The series follows two warring crime families – the Harrigans and the Stevensons – who clash in a battle that threatens to topple empires and lives. Caught in the crossfire is Harry Da Souza (played by Tom Hardy), a street-smart and formidable “fixer” tasked with mitigating the escalating conflict and prevent an all-out gang war.
The production filmed within the borough over several months between November 2024-March 2025 – keep your eyes peeled for familiar territory! Locations which we helped facilitate that are prominently featured include fast-moving club scenes within FOLD nightclub on Stephenson Street and high-stake gang meetings surrounding Peacock Gymnasium.
If thrilling gangster dramas are your thing – you can catch weekly episodes of season 1 of Mobland on Paramount+.
Back in Action
Netflix enters the New Year with a bang! Their first major release of 2025 is the glossy action comedy, Back In Action, starring household names such as Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx and Glenn Close. The film follows married couple and retired CIA operatives, Max and Emily (played by Diaz and Foxx), who are pulled back into espionage after their identities are revealed ultimately putting their lives – and their children’s lives – in danger.
The production spent a week in the borough back in 2023, where they shot a complex (literally) punchy chase sequence on the River Thames. See if you can spot familiar sites such as Royal Victoria Dock and Thames Barrier Park in the penultimate scene where Emily and Max defy all odds to rescue their captured children. It’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!
Back in Action is available to stream in full on Netflix and you can check out the trailer below.
Amandaland
Whilst intense action-packed thrillers are appearing to be very popular amongst current audiences, a fresh British sitcom is always welcomed.
As part of its Sitcom Season, BBC brings the joy with its latest comedy Amandaland – a spin-off of the hit series, Motherland. The story follows popular character, Amanda Hughes (played by Lucy Punch), as she navigates parenting teenagers in a post-divorce household.
The production found themselves in the borough in October 2024 where they filmed scenes of Amanda riding her bike through London streets, mimicking her cycle home. Be on the lookout for familiar areas such as Avenue Road, Stacey Road and Moore Walk.
All episodes of the series are now available to stream on BBC iPlayer. The show has since been renewed for a second season. We hope to see their return to the borough very soon!
