Film Office ‘jumps in’ at helping out the World’s first ‘Dive Thru’

Keam George Agency was put to the challenge for finding a location for Huawei to launch their new Watch GT 2 and, after getting in contact with The Film Office, they found the ideal solution at London Royal Docks.

Huawei opened the world’s first “Dive-Thru” on the Royal Victoria Dock, where they gave away free watches for swimmers bold enough to dive underwater to collect them. The production did two prep days on the Docks, then one live activation day on the 19th of October.

The Docks was the ideal backdrop for the brand activation, being used regularly for open water swimmers, with a great skyline of Canary Wharf in the background.

Olympian and Celebrity MasterChef winner Greg Rutherford was the first to take a dip this week when he opened the floating shop.

Each watch was worth £199 and was be given away on a first come, first serve basis.

The production also hired a safety boat for the duration with drivers and worked closely with Open Water Swimming for their health and safety requirements.

Vangelica Cola Paritsi producer for the stunt said, “The Huawei Dive-Thru concept was a big thing to pull off in the middle of open water! Not only did we build a Dive-Thru kiosk in the water for a film and photo shoot, we then opened the kiosk to the public to swim in the water from the jetty to the kiosk, to win a free watch. The Royal Victoria Dock ended up being the perfect location for what was needed, it was based in central London and had an incredible turn out of consumers, the water was clear and Rick Kiddle’s team at NOWCA on the jetty were absolutely incredible to work with. The project was constantly evolving and The Film Office were able to respond to and accommodate our production needs in very tight turn-around times and with ever-changing schedules. Both the shoot and the live public event were a huge success!”
