Did you spot the “Pretty Woman” star walking down the street?

A few months ago, Newham Film Office was contacted by the BBC as they were in preproduction of a new drama series “MotherFatherSon”.

The brand-new eight-part drama series from best-selling author and screenwriter Tom Rob Smith (Child 44, The Farm, London Spy) will see Richard Gere returning to TV for the first time in almost thirty years.

As part of their filming the production were looking for an estate and flats to dress as a “sheltered accommodation”. The Newham Film Office, managed by The Film Office, but forward the Empty Flats 7 & 8 both in the Carpenters Estate.

George Giry-Deloison from Newham Film Office said: “After being appraoched by the production we knew the Carpenters Estate would fit the brief perfectly. Ensuring a quick response and low impact on the local residents resulted in successful filming for all parties. This new political and psychological thriller looks to be a timely and exciting series and will showcase locations on the estate not used before!”

Productions are making the most of increased filming in Newham with The Film Office bringing more council assets into play for the use by the Industry.

The TV drama also features Helen McCrory from Peaky Blinders and Billy Howle who will be playing Richard and Helen’s onscreen son Caden.

The series will premiere later this year.
