In 2017, World Productions contacted the Newham Film Office, managed by The Film Office to discuss a new project written and created by Lennie James (The Walking Dead).
The 6-part Drama made by World Productions on behalf of Sky and produced by Patrick Schweitzer (The Interceptor, Doctor Who) told the story of Nelly, a charismatic man from a South London estate, who is accused of abducting his estranged daughter and sets out to try and find her.
It is not a crime thriller, but the journey of a man finding the best version of himself in adversity.
Production started in late January 2017 in the Carpenters Estate and ran till April. The Newham Film Office managed filming at the location to ensure that the production ran smoothly throughout the period whilst maintaining minimal impact on residents in the area.
Newham has a host of fantastic locations that are quickly become favourites of location managers as The Film Office brings more council assets into play and avaiable for filming.
The first series of Save Me was released on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV at the end of February 2018, and has been a hit with viewers and critics alike.
It became the most rapidly binged box-set release on Sky and a cumulative audience of 1.73 million viewers tuned into the first episode to watch Nelly’s world turn upside down after he is arrested and accused of kidnapping his 13-year-old daughter Jody, a child he barely knew existed.
The second series has already been confirmed and we hope this means we will see the production return to Newham next year!
In the meantime you catch up on the show on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
