Award Winning Animator Makes a Stop (Motion) in Newham

This month Bluelight Stopmotion production transformed one the Newham Film Office’s Empty Flat locations into the set of an eerie Stop Motion Animation.

The project directed by award winning animator Robert Morgan was a tester for the BFI. The director was given the opportunity by the BFI to provide them with the necessary footage to release funds for an animated feature film.

Working with the Newham Film Office, managed by The Film Office, the production sought a location offering the perfect backdrop on a minimal budget.

Newham Film Office George Giry-Deloison says “It was a pleasure to support the project and view the animation techniques first hand. We feel its vital to provide support for low budget filming of this nature and we hope the production secure the necessary funding with a view to returning to the borough to film the feature!”.

The director Robert Morgan said: “The location at Carpenter’s Estate was perfect for our project – we had to mix live-action with stop-motion animation and The Film Office found the perfect spot for us – secure, practical, and full of the right kind of atmosphere for our film. Plus, we were able to utilise both the exterior and interior spaces to maximum effect. It was an all-around perfect location for us and The Film Office were incredibly supportive.”
